Guatemala 2004
In February 2004, my
brother
Troy and I visited Guatemala for a roaming, 9 day trip. We had a
great time, and would recommend this beautiful country to anyone who
wants to try somewhere different. Volcanoes, jungle, the
Caribbean, and incredible Mayan ruins are just part of what Guatemala
offered us.

At
the Top of Mount Pacaya, an active volcano
in
Guatemala. Smelled of mean Sulphur.

These
converted school buses, dubbed "Chicken Buses" are the
chief
means of transport around the country. Gut-shaking.

A
shot of Lake Atitlan. Aldous Huxley called it the most beautiful
Lake in
the world. Hippies say it's a 'vortex energy' field.

On
the roof of our $3 room in San Pedro. Great little town.

A
thread vendor in Chichicastenango, or Chichi. It's the largest
market in Guatemala, held each Thursday and Sunday.

A
colourful cemetary on the outskirts of Chichi.

A
vendor selling carved wooden masks.

Armadillo Shells.

Big
bags of chile peppers.

A
kid selling confetti. Little girls would go home with a
mixture of their favourite colours.

Heading
out onto the Caribbean Sea, from Puerto Barrios
to Livingston.

I
want to say this is an Egret. Not sure. In any case, it was
along the beautiful Rio Dulce.

Overlooking
the Gran Plaza of Tikal, one of the largest Mayan sites.

More
of Tikal. Note the Howler Monkey (In the red cap).
